A Modern Parliament in a Historic Building - Berlin, Germany

The facade of the Abgeordnetenhaus

Shortly after the Berlin Wall came down in November 1989 and some time before reunification of Germany and Berlin, The idea was born to return the building after sixty years to the original use for which it was designed: a parliament building.

The use of this building is not only correct from the curators´ viewpoint, it also entails that the municipal parliament can once again take advantage of the traditional facilities of the building: the plenary hall as well as the lopby are restoredto their old functions, the old cafeteria is turning into a modern casino, and even the cloackrooms are once again used the way they were intended to be used.
